Exhibition at Carre Gallery Sleaford Lincolnshire

Article text
The Carre Gallery at Sleaford is holding an exhibition of photography by Grantham-based photographer Martin Cameron for two weeks from Monday 9 February until Saturday 21 February 2009.

Martin Cameron has spent many years as a London-based studio photographer in the commercial fields of advertising, corporate and editorial work. Now living in Grantham, Lincolnshire, he has moved out of the rigid studio environment enjoying the freedom to travel and photograph people and places. He also holds legal qualifications specialising in commercial and copyright law and has worked as an advisor to the Association of Photographers in London.

Martin has a long relationship with Lincolnshire. When he was young boy in the sixties he lived in Heckington Hall with his parents and six sisters before moving to Sutton on Sea. Due to his father’s work, the family moved to Yorkshire before returning once again to Lincolnshire, near Sleaford.

The exhibition is a collection of images of people and places taken on Martin’s travels over the years. While some of the images have been taken while on foreign assignments there are also many shots taken on trips to fairly local venues.

“While there are a lot exotic places in the world, I think the English forget just how beautiful this country is.” says Martin. “Belton House near Grantham is a particular favourite haunt of mine. I just love it.”

“I also love the Lincolnshire coast. Cheaper travel has made overseas travel more affordable but I sense a tangible resurgence of the English seaside as a travel destination. The opportunities for photography are fantastic. I enjoy people-watching in summer but I especially love the sense of empty space in the winter months.”

“I’d like to share my view of the world and simply hope that it gives pleasure to anyone who sees it.”

Exhibition open 9 Feb - 21 Feb 2009
